Curioso Artist Features: Terms and Conditions

By submitting an application to a Curioso Artist Feature, you agree to these terms. Please read them before applying.

1. About Curioso Artist Features

Curioso Artist Features celebrate artists and introduce their work to our community through selected Curioso channels. The theme, eligibility requirements, application deadline, selection criteria and details of what selected artists will receive will be stated on the relevant opportunity page.

Artist Features are editorial opportunities. Curioso does not represent participating artists, handle sales, act as an agent or broker introductions. Selection does not guarantee sales, enquiries, followers or other commercial opportunities.

Unless stated otherwise on the opportunity page, applying is free and selected artists will not be charged to take part.

2. Eligibility and applications

Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements shown on the relevant opportunity page. Artists working in any medium are welcome, provided their work can be represented through images or video as part of an online feature.

Only one application may be submitted by each artist for each opportunity. Applications must be complete and accessible to Curioso by the published deadline. Late applications, or submissions that remain technically inaccessible after the deadline, cannot be considered for that round.

Applicants are responsible for providing accurate information and working contact details. Applying does not guarantee selection or publication.

3. Selection

Applications will be considered using the criteria published for the relevant opportunity. Curioso will make selections in good faith and may consider the individuality of the work, its relationship to the theme, its suitability for an online feature, and the balance and cohesion of the selected group.

Curioso may contact an applicant to clarify information but is not required to provide individual feedback. Applicants will be notified within a reasonable period after the deadline and before the relevant feature is published.

Curioso’s selection decision is final, although artists may contact us if they believe an error has been made in processing their application.

4. Submitted work and content

Applicants must submit their own work or have permission from all relevant copyright holders and collaborators to submit it. Applicants must provide accurate credits and obtain any permissions reasonably required for identifiable people, performances, music or third-party material included in the submission.

AI-generated or AI-assisted work is eligible unless an opportunity states otherwise. Where generative AI was the primary method used to create the work, this must be identified clearly in the medium or artwork details.

Curioso may reject work or supporting material that is unlawful, threatening, hateful, discriminatory, defamatory, deliberately misleading, infringes another person’s rights or is otherwise unsuitable for publication by Curioso. This does not prevent artists from submitting work that engages thoughtfully with difficult or challenging subjects.

5. Copyright and permission to use submitted material

Artists retain copyright in their work.

By submitting an application, the applicant gives Curioso permission to store, access and reproduce the submitted images and information as reasonably necessary to administer and assess the application.

If an artist is selected, they also give Curioso a non-exclusive, worldwide and royalty-free licence to reproduce the agreed artwork images and submitted text as part of the Artist Feature described on the relevant opportunity page. This may include publication through Curioso’s website, Instagram account, Instagram Stories, email newsletter and reasonable promotion of that Artist Feature.

Curioso may crop, resize or reformat images as reasonably necessary for these channels without seeking additional approval. Curioso will not materially alter the artwork itself, sell the submitted images or license them to third parties.

Curioso will credit the artist and, where relevant and supplied by the applicant, the photographer. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that credit information is accurate.

6. Privacy, accounts and AI use

Applications and unpublished submitted materials can be accessed only by the Curioso team and service providers required to operate the platform securely. They will not be made public unless the artist is selected and contacted about publication.

An account may be required to submit an application through Curioso, but submitting to an Artist Feature does not create a publicly visible artist profile.

Curioso does not use submitted artwork images to train AI models or analyse their artistic content using generative AI.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with Curioso’s privacy notice: https://curioso.amfoundry.uk/pages/privacy-policy. Consent to receive marketing or newsletter emails is optional and separate from applying. Curioso may still send service messages required to administer an application, including confirmation and outcome emails.

Artists may request deletion of their application and associated images by contacting [email protected]. Curioso will honour reasonable deletion requests, subject to any information it must retain for legal, security or administrative record-keeping purposes.

7. Withdrawal

Artists may withdraw their application at any time by contacting [email protected].

If an artist withdraws before publication, Curioso will not include their work in the feature. If a withdrawal is requested after publication, Curioso will stop making new uses of the work and remove it from channels under its control where reasonably practicable. Materials already distributed, including sent email newsletters, may not be capable of being recalled.

8. Publication and changes

Selected artists will be contacted before publication using the details supplied in their application. Where a collaborative Instagram post is offered, publication in that format depends on the artist accepting the collaboration invitation and on Instagram’s functionality.

Curioso may make reasonable changes to dates, publication formats or the number of selected artists where necessary. It may also postpone or cancel an Artist Feature, or remove published material where there is a legal, technical, safety or rights-related reason to do so. Curioso will inform affected artists where reasonably practicable.

Curioso cannot guarantee that published material will remain available permanently, as third-party platforms and circumstances may change.

9. Curioso platform terms

Curioso’s general platform terms apply to the creation and use of a Curioso account: https://curioso.amfoundry.uk/pages/terms-and-conditions. These Artist Feature terms apply specifically to applications, selection and publication through Curioso Artist Features.

If information on an individual opportunity page conflicts with these terms, the opportunity page will take precedence only in relation to the specific details of that opportunity, such as its theme, eligibility, dates and published offer.

10. Contact and governing law

Questions, withdrawal requests or concerns about an Artist Feature can be sent to [email protected].

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Nothing in these terms removes any mandatory rights an applicant may have under the laws that apply where they live.
